A Long Way Off

A long Way Off is a personal account of moving from England to the Greek island of Corfu. Most of it is funny. Some of it is sad.

You will encounter numerous stray dogs (some less stray than others), priests wielding dynamite and two people not called Spiro. You will marvel at the things that didn't work. You'll cheer for the very few things that did.

The style is creative non-fiction -- indeed, part of it won a creative non-fiction competition. Other parts were sold for publication years ago. And then, for ten years or so, it all sat, ignored in a damp back room of my hard drive. Some was callously dumped onto CDs which grew little islands of mould.

The words in this book were carried in this manner across Europe to France, and thence to America, and finally rebelled somewhere in Slovenia. They came out, ordered themselves into a coherent story and became this 70,000 word journey.

I was in Corfu for four years. It remains a very vivid chapter in my life.
